Why do you need Information Asset Owner (IAO) training?

Undertaking IAO training helps you to:

  • understand your role and how it aligns with and supports other key roles such as the Senior Information Risk Owner and Data Protection officer
  • ensure specific information assets are handled and managed appropriately
  • recognise the value of data held within information assets and utilise that data appropriately and securely
  • ensure that everyone is aware of their personal responsibility to exercise good judgement, and to safeguard and share information taking into account the necessity and proportionality of that data.

Effective IAO training will:

Help you to manage information assets correctly to help you identify:

  • how sensitive it is
  • how accurate it is
  • how reliant your organisation is on the data
  • who is responsible for it.

The law

The UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 requires organisations to provide a compliant environment to handling personal data. IAOs also manage information assets to comply with statutory obligations such as the Public Records Act.
