Draft ICO Data Sharing Code

Have Your Say – ICO’s Data Sharing Code

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is inviting local authorities to feedback on its latest draft of the Data Sharing Code Of Practice document, which is being updated under the new Data Protection Act 2018.

The document will be renewed to address the many changes that have taken place within data protection legislation since its original release in 2011.

Topics to be covered include data transparency, lawful bases for processing and the new accountability principle under GDPR. It will also inform on the requirements regarding the recording of processes among other data sharing activities.

The re-draft of the code began in August 2018 when the ICO requested input from a variety of organisations, in for the form of a questionnaire covering how their organisation used data and how relevant the 2011 code was to their practice of data sharing. Responses particularly requested further information on safeguarding data, particularly children’s data and dealing with multi-agency data agreements.

You can read the full draft form of the updated document and leave your views on the changes via the ICO website here.
