Information Asset Owner (IAO)

Online Training

  • Call scheduled for 3 hours with 30 minutes available immediately following the end of the session for queries or discussion.
  • Presentation will be issued 4 working days in advance.
  • You will need to read the course materials prior to the session, so at the beginning you can highlight any areas that you may be specifically unsure of, or if you any specific issues/scenarios that you may want to discuss. These will be factored into the session.
  • After the session, time will be spent reflecting and consolidating training learnt into a development plan.
  • Overall the training will be 6 hours, a certificate will be issued after the training.

Why do you need Information Asset Owner (IAO) training?

Undertaking IAO training helps you to:

  • Fulfil your responsibilities as an Information Asset Owner
  • understand your role and how it aligns with and supports other key roles such as the Senior Information Risk Owner and Data Protection officer
  • ensure specific information assets are handled and managed appropriately
  • recognise the value of data held within information assets and utilise that data appropriately and securely
  • ensure that everyone is aware of their personal responsibility to exercise good judgement, and to safeguard and share information taking into account the necessity and proportionality of that data.

 

Effective IAO training will:

Help you to manage information assets correctly to help you identify:

  • what information your organisation holds
  • how important it is
  • how sensitive it is
  • how accurate it is
  • how reliant your organisation is on the data
  • who is responsible for it.

 

The law

The UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 requires organisations to provide a compliant environment to handling personal data. IAOs also manage information assets to comply with statutory obligations such as the Public Records Act.

 

Who needs IAO training?

This course is for all those who require refresher or up-to-date training, in the Information Asset Owner role, either as a IAO, a deputy or an information governance professional working in support of the IAO role such as an Information Asset Owner Administrator. Specifically:

  • A person in the organisation responsible for the content of data and decisions relating to it for example a HR Director is likely to be the IAO for data held in systems relating to recruitment, sickness or performance reviews..
  • Those in an Information Governance role wanting a better insight to information assets and how to support the IAO.
  • Those deputising for the IAO.

  • delivers maximum value to your organisation
