- Call scheduled for 3 hours with additional time available immediately following the end of the session for queries or discussion.
- Presentation will be issued 4 working days in advance.
- You will need to read the course materials prior to the session, so at the beginning you can highlight any areas that you may be specifically unsure of, or if you any specific issues/scenarios that you may want to discuss. These will be factored into the session.

Effective Marketing, Fundraising and Data Protection training will:
- Improve your understanding of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
- Support you in understanding when the legislation allows you to communicate with potential donors and supporters, including which method and what key messages are allowed.
- Provide an overview of the key steps you need to take in order to remain compliant with PECR, including understanding the Lawful Basis you are using and completing Legitimate Interests Assessments (LIA).
- Through practical discussion, help you to explore additional reflection when considering your marketing and fund raising practices.
- Identify learning and development opportunities for your staff.
The Law
The UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 requires you to provide a compliant environment when handling personal data. As such you must ensure that you can readily evidence that your organisation has appropriate technical and organisational security measures in place in relation to processing peoples’ data.
In addition to this the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) ‘give people specific privacy rights in relation to electronic marketing’ (ICO).
Who needs Marketing, Fundraising and Data Protection training?
This course is for all teams who are involved with marketing and fundraising communications sent out by their organisation. It supports those who have a basic understanding but want to explore their decisions and gain knowledge of other “real life” scenarios and issues affecting organisations nationally.
Specifically it is ideal for:
- Marketing and Fundraising leads and their teams.
- DPOs and other senior members of staff acting in a lead IG role.
Aims of the course
To equip those, within an organisation, with a responsibility for marketing and fundraising with a better understanding of the legislation and range of decision making involved to ensure compliance.
This includes consideration of:
- The general data protection underpinning marketing and fundraising (UK GDPR and DPA 2018).
- The specific applicable legislation, in this case the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
- How to apply the correct lawful basis.
- How to apply the key rights of individuals in relation to their data.
- The use of Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIA).
- The use of practical examples and case studies.
- To have confidence in when applying the key elements of PECR to the communications your organisation issues.
- To promote questions and discussions.
