Data Protection

Who Is Responsible for Data Protection in a Company?

Data protection is a collective responsibility across all levels of an organisation. While every employee plays a part in handling information securely, leadership and governance roles have specific accountability.

Most organisations designate a Data Protection Officer (DPO) or an Information Governance (IG)/IT Team to oversee compliance, provide training, and ensure that policies align with legislation. The DPO serves as the point of contact for the ICO and ensures organisational decisions respect individual rights.

Ultimately, compliance requires a culture of awareness, where every staff member recognises their role in safeguarding data integrity.
